December 2007

Victorian Christmas Fair

The Big Splash Choir reformed in December 2007, learning carols ancient and new in a performance entitled ‘Wintry Songs in Velvet’. All songs were composed by Alison Burns. The event was part of a celebration to launch the cruiseship, Queen Victoria. Day one of the event was cancelled due to high winds, and there was risk that the Spiegel Tent would be blown away! However, all was well on the night, and The Big Splash collected over £170 for Naomi House Hospice.

The Story and the Harp

Fiona’s duo, ‘The Story and the Harp’ made a colourful comeback in the Sherwell Centre, Plymouth in the week before Christmas. The pair wove tales of winter magic and charm with songs, stories and improvised harp music.

April 2008

Launch of the National Year of Reading

Fiona performed stories in The Mall, Southampton, assisting in the launch of the National year of Reading. Chairs, a magic carpet, and a beautiful carved wooden story chair all helped to entice passers-by to stop for a few moments and be spellbound by a story. Television presenter Sally Taylor made the official launch and presented two sets of books to schools.

June 2008

Mostly Gospel with Southampton Philharmonic Choir

Fiona led a mostly gospel workshop with the prestigious Southampton Phil. There were about one hundred participants, all moving, swaying and improvising, with not a musical score in sight! Musical director David Gibson was full of praise for Fiona’s leadership and musicianship, and participants were mainly delighted with the evening, very different from learning Verdi’s Requiem!
